New Discord & Forum Etiquette
A Cover Letter to the Staff & Community before we continue.
I, DrBrain The Owner and Founder of Thunderspygaming, do not take
joy in having to revisit things I felt were defined pretty well prior but
with the growth of the community and the time it seems that these
things are inevitable. I founded this community on the idea that in
todays Society, it is a practice that being yourself publicly or saying how
you feel was not only wrong to do but seen as a dangerous idea, even if
what you said or did was not actually wrong. Where people could label
you on Social Media anything they wanted and it was treated as a
statement of fact rather than an opinion. Society is not like how it was
when I grew up. People do not connect the ways we have done for
thousands of years thanks to the Internet. With that said, I love video
games. I grew up enjoying City of heroes as a young adult till it was shut
down. I applied how video games and online multiplayer was back in
the late 90s to 2007 to how I felt the community should be ran. That is
still the case.
Doing the rules under the guise of self-moderation had today’s society
label us as the worst things imaginable with zero consideration for what
that even meant or why it was needed. I accept those declarative
statements from the others outside our community as a challenge to
prove to others that allowing people to be adults, make choices to do
the right thing and to build a community that doesn’t believe that
“Might is Right” or “Staff Know what’s Best for you”. I considered the
best kind of moderation was to promote yourself to BE your own
Moderator in a broad set of guidelines and a report function if things
were really necessary. To view things of what you accept and don’t and
make the judgement to block or mute or report those that do not
believe in practicing basic human decency or to just have fun with a
video game that has been dead(or hidden from the public depending
on your viewpoint)for the better part of 8 years.
I do not plan on changing that style of moderation in this revamp but
rather define what someone I consider to be of sound mind and honest
with a touch of Common Sense would expect. This being said, I expect
everyone to read these rules and respect what our server attempts to
provide by letting you as a Player just have fun and not stress about
how you have fun or speak. That doesn’t mean players around you will
like what you say or how you play but that’s the point. Form your own
groups and play the game how you want too. Promote a sense of what
you expect to see in a community. That’s the beauty of
Thunderspygaming to me, it’s why I chose our server slogan to be “It’s
YOUR Game” because with these practices, it really is. With these ideas
in mind, I have built one of the best development groups I have ever
seen and Event Organizers and Staff. The amount of breakthroughs and
amazing concepts using these rules of freedom have let creativity and
bonds form that I would not trade for anything. My Staff and
Community to me, are like a Family and it makes me happy seeing you
all happy playing City of Heroes or modding it or coming up with ideas
to better it or working directly on the server or even brand new
content!
I hope this letter clarifies myself and my feelings on all this. Thank you
for taking the time to read this.

DISCORD RULES
0). Take these rules as they are to be intended and not as they are written literally.
0.1. Rule skirting, lawyering, and/or being a dick for the sake of ruining others' experiences
can become a bannable offense if occurring regularly.
What does this mean?
Imagine you are in a Grocery Store and there is a long line to check out in front of you. Rather
than waiting in line patiently you decide to groan and make very audible, loud complaints to
everyone in line. When asked to keep it down you rudely respond with “WHY? I AM THE
CUSTOMER? I AM NOT BREAKING ANY RULES! JUST LET ME CHECK OUT AHEAD OF THEM IF
YOU WANT ME GONE!”.
Now, what kind of person does that make you? Exactly. Don’t be this person
1.) Keep ALL NSFW(Not Safe for Work)images and posts in the NSFW channels and keep the
conversations on those topics strictly in the channels that were made for them.
Q: WHY!
A: Because Discord can remove our community at a single thought and we have to respect
some of the rules they implement regardless of my feelings or opinions towards it. Also
because someone discussing City of Heroes in the CoH Discussion channel probably does
not want to see your Furry Collection of Images at all. I know I don’t so don’t do this.
Q: WELL WHATS CONSIDERED NSFW?
A: Porn, Explicit Images, Controversal topics such as Politics, Religion, Conspiracy Theory.
Even Staff have a NSFW announcement board just for staff to only share there opinions on
topics(channel is known as #Shitposting Announcements)
Q: WHAT IF IT’S HARMFUL TO ME!?
A: Block the person who sent it, report the image to staff and we will make the judgement
call on it
1st offense: Warning
2nd offense: 24 hour Mute
3rd offense: 48 hour Ban
4th offense: Perma-Ban
2.) Flame Wars will not be tolerated and will be subjected to an infraction or ban
depending on the severity of the damage caused.
Q: WHATS A FLAME WAR?
A: A flame war results when multiple users engage in provocative responses to
an original post, which is sometimes (but not always) flamebait. Flame wars
often draw in many users (including those trying to defuse the flame war) and
can overshadow regular forum discussion if left unchecked. I personally call
these events tiny shitstorms rolling down a hill that if continued will explode
into a community wide issue fast.
Q: I need an Example
A: MINIX vs. Linux
In 1992 Andy Tanenbaum, computer science professor at Amsterdam’s Vrije
Universiteit and creator of MINIX, began a debate on the Usenet group
comp.os.minix with a post explaining why “LINUX is obsolete.” This assertion
came only a few months after the first version of Linux was released, and
launched a long and now-famous argument about kernel architecture. This stupid
argument still happens today in various different places. In fact, we side with a
Kernel Cluster system as a best alternative to server hosting and organization.
1st Offence: Mute for 24 hours
2nd Offence: 48 Hour ban/Perma Ban(depending on the damage caused)
3.) Do not abuse pings or create false positive fatigue through their overuse.
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: 24 hour Mute
3rd Offense: 72 hour Mute
4th Offense: Perma-Ban
4.) Doxing and SWATing:
Doing it, encouraging it, or joking about it will lead to a permanent in-game,
Discord, and forum ban.
5.) Do not use this Discord server to break the rules of other communities
2a: This rule usually only covers raids, exploits, and metacommunication, and
does not apply to stupid rules such as, "do not criticize us in other servers".
1st Offence: 24 hour ban
2nd Offence: Perma-Ban
6.) This Discord server, requires you to be 16 years old. (We’re not going to hunt
down your age.)
7.) Heated community discussions belong in #Parliment. You are expected to
voluntarily move discussions there before they become disruptive.
8.) Completely Off Topic Discussions belong in #shitposting. You are expected to
voluntarily move discussions there before they become disruptive.
9.) ANYTHING ILLEGAL POSTED IN THE SERVER WILL BE
INSTANTLY REPORTED TO THE AUTHORITIES BY ME
PERSONALY AND DISCORD. DO NOT DO THIS
Q: What is considered illegal?
A: illegal images, materials and such that is against the Law in the US. Use
your fucking head here buddy.
